This article examines how Nordic organizations, particularly the multinational energy company Intric, successfully adapted work engagement activities during COVID-19 lockdowns through virtual cook-and-eat-along events. Drawing on Sweden's digital readiness and experience with Activity Based Workplaces, the study explores how organizations overcame organizational inertia to maintain employee connection despite remote work requirements. Intric's Management Trainee Programme initiated voluntary virtual cooking sessions that emphasized New Nordic Cuisine values and plant-based diets, aligning with the company's corporate social responsibility goals for sustainable ecosystem services. The initiative attracted approximately 20 participants per event and successfully extended employee networks beyond geographical boundaries while fostering a sense of extended family within the organization. The case demonstrates that virtual engagement activities outside traditional work portfolios can strengthen cross-departmental relationships and support organizational learning while reinforcing corporate values during periods of disruption.
