The report contains a study of two test methods for plastic pipes for marine application. Two situations are studied, the surface spread of flame along vertical pipes and the fire endurance of pipes pressurized with stagnant water. In both cases local heat sources are used. A total of 46 tests were performed. For the flame spread situation the installation of pipes in practice could be compared with the use of cables. Therefore an international fire test procedure for electric power cables, IEC 332-3, was studied. The influence of a number of test parameters, such as the heat output from the ignition source and the mounting of test specimens, were investigated. The test IEC 332-3 was deemed suitable; only a specification of specimen mounting needs to be added. For the situation of fire endurance a procedure where a horizontal pipe was exposed to a powerful burner was studied. Some preliminary work had earlier been done by the Fire Research Laboratory (NBL), Trondheim, although no test standard was issued and further test development work was needed. The influence of a number of test parameters was studied, and the main principles for a new test procedure are given in this report.
