Abstract [sv]

This document gives the a description of the framework of the environmental labelling in the P-marking system. The environmental criteria is introducing a voluntary option in the system. The environmental labelling system is regarding to ISO definition a type I system. The unique concept here compared to other existing labelling system are in brief: a) the system is divided in two environmental categories (product and production) together covering the entire life cycle of the product (raw material extraction, manufacturing use and final fate) b) each category is then divided in a three graded scale. This concept will indicate the absolute best available choice in an environmental view point c) the product criteria is based on a performed LCA, supplied with environmental indicators for such environmental impact categories which today not is covered in a sufficient way in LCA d) the system is in practice a product certification where SP performs the control and is the certifying part e) new criteria is arrived from product development rather than from SP. This document describes four critical issues used in the LCA, that by experience has an major influence of the result, given below: a) type of system used to model the product system (”system expansion”/”effect of the choice” or a more classical product oriented system using allocation technique) b) handling of recycling (”open loop recycling”) c) choice of weighting method. The weighting method used here is in great extend based on ”best available technique” d) equal parts is taken into account in the criteria to focus on ”the main” question and not a margin difference. In many cases this leads to the fact that a product performance property is the most important environmental issue. This document is supplied with further regulation and criteria for each specific product group.
