    Abstract [en]

    Autonomous (self-driving) cars will in a few years become a reality, driven by safety aspects. This will be made possible by reliable and secure wireless connections to the car via the wireless network, and directly from other vehicles in the close vicinity. Thereby OTA-testing becomes a big issue, both in multipath and Line-Of-Sight (LOS). The present paper proposes two compact and cost-effective test chambers that take account of the two limiting environments known as Rich Isotropic Multipath (RIMP) and Random-LOS. The randomness of the latter is associated with the unknown and arbitrarily distributed angle of arrival of the LOS in the horizontal plane, sometimes also having an unknown polarization, which thereby also become random.

    Abstract [en]

    Achieving good isolation between two antennas in a wireless terminal is a challenge, especially if it is small compared to the wavelength. This communication presents a technique useful for two monopoles. It is based on placing the monopoles collinearly and tuning the ground plane size to approximately λ/4. Simulations and measurements are presented to illustrate the technique. Different methods of tuning the ground plane size in small terminals are discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    Mode-stirred reverberation chambers (MSRCs) are a useful tool for measuring several wireless-related MIMO antenna parameters. In a conventional single-cavity MSRC, the emulated fading environment is isotropic and the amplitude of the signal is Rayleigh distributed. Previous contributions have enhanced the emulation capabilities of MSRCs so as to include the ability to emulate Rician- and non-isotropic fading environments. In this contribution, arbitrary amplitude probability density functions (PDF) emulation using a MSRC is presented by selecting parts of the sample set that forms different statistical ensembles. Several algorithms are presented and compared in terms of computation time and power accuracy using simulated as well as measured data from different MSRCs to obtain Rician, on-body and amplitude PDFs of standardized models. The technique is patent-protected by EMITE.

    Abstract [en]

    Antennas are one of the key components for efficient and reliable vehicular communications systems; especially for safety related applications the antenna performance is crucial. It is therefore important to be able to evaluate the antenna performance under realistic conditions so that the best antenna solution can be selected. In this paper we present a statistical method for evaluating the antenna performance by using the antennas radiation patterns and a multipath simulation tool. The multipath environment is generated by a number of incident waves with a specific angle of arrival distribution, defined by the user. In order to generate voltage samples at the antenna ports many sets of incident waves are generated. This simulates a changing environment as, e.g., when the vehicle is moving. By studying the cumulative distribution functions (CDFs) for the voltage samples we are able to compare the performance for different antenna types, positions on the vehicle, etc. The method is fast and effective and, when applied to typical vehicular propagation environments, the importance of having antennas with radiation patterns capable of covering the whole azimuth plane is demonstrated.

    Abstract [en]

    Test and evaluation of wireless communication performance with cars can be done in many ways. One approach, for both vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) tests, is to use a multipath propagation simulator to achieve realistic signal environments for the different communication systems under test. Multipath propagation simulators have previously been shown to be useful for testing mobile handsets. Specific issues related to tests with cars are the large size of the test object and the disturbances it can cause. In this paper we experimentally study how different design parameters of the multipath propagation simulator affect the received signals. The analysis of the setup as well as the data is performed using the so-called 'Design of Experiments' method.

    Abstract [en]

    User influence on multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) performance is studied for different dual antenna handsets specially designed to have good and bad MIMO performance. The study reveals that user influence can cause either improvement or degradation for different test objects, including a spread effect over the parameters. Differences in performance between good and bad handsets can be clear when they are measured without user influence, but become small under real person influence. This result illustrates the particular importance of user influence to characterize MIMO handsets.

    Last year, a new round robin test device was proposed for inter-laboratory comparisons in conducted immunity testing according to IEC 61000-4-6[1]. The device has recently been successfully evaluated among all EMRP Project partners. The device is able to confirm or to deny the testing capability of a laboratory by recording a full set of parameters. The device is now ready for deployment as the first commercial proficiency testing device for conducted immunity.

    Abstract [en]

    Nb-Ge-C nanocomposite thin films were deposited by dc magnetron sputtering using three elemental targets. The films consist of substoichiometric NbC x in a nanometer-thick matrix of amorphous C and Ge. Films with no Ge contain grains that are elongated in the growth direction with a (111) preferred crystallographic orientation. With the addition of ∼12 at. % Ge, the grains are more equiaxed and exhibit a more random orientation. At even higher Ge contents, the structure also becomes denser. The porous structure of the low Ge content films result in O uptake from the ambient. With higher C content in the films both the amount of amorphous C and C/Nb-ratio increases. The contact resistance was measured by four-point technique as a function of contact force between 0 and 10 N. The lowest contact resistance (1.7 mΩ) is obtained at 10 N. The resistivity varies between 470 and 1700 μΩ·cm depending on porosity and O content.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper describes a broadband antenna with a design similar to a Vivaldi antenna. The difference is that a resonance is added to get a wider frequency range, which is used to reduce the dimensions of the antenna. The antenna is built and characterized by S11, radiation patterns, and gain.
