    Abstract [en]

    Collaborative robot installations often mean man-machine workspace sharing. This mode of operation can lead to reductions of tact time and work space requirements. We have analyzed potential further benefits of man-machine collaboration, where operators and powerful robots share workspace, cooperating when lifting and handling large objects. We found that this mode of operation has the potential to generate economic advantages by reducing the need for manual operators and lifting tools and by offering new opportunities for component logistics.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents a cost-efficiency study of part integration with respect to reduced assembly effort within aeronautical composite structures. The study is performed through the use, and continuous improvement upon, a previously developed cost model. Focus are on the assembly and basic inspection a wing box, part of a section of a full wing, where involved parts are all considered to be manufactured from carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). Treated cases range from traditional, mechanical joining, to high integration either through co-curing or co-bonding of composite structures. The outcome of presented cost study shows that increased integration decreases the overall production cost of said considered wing box. In general it is shown that co-curing or co-bonding reduces a number of cost-expensive assembly steps in comparison to mechanical joining

    Abstract [en]

    Lean production principles are used to direct operations. Together with the production system challenges these can be converted to design parameters to direct changes in axiomatic design of production systems. This paper presents two assembly cases with different operations, products and company sizes. The cases still show similarities in challenges and design parameters. The change implementation strategies differ, possibly depending on maturity of improvements and automation level. Both external and internal personnel may improve communication by an axiomatic design approach
