    Abstract [sv]

    TUFF-PO rör personalplaneringsarbetet, specifikt planering för bemanning av tåg med lokförare, i tidiga faser då tidtabellen ännu inte är fastställd men då ett antal villkor och begränsningar på tågen och deras rörelser är kända. TUFF-PO genererar förslag och data som möjliggör effektiv personalplanering i senare skeden, genom att skapa begränsningar på tidtabelläggningen, begränsningar som tar bort dåliga och ineffektiva lösningar ur personalplaneringsperspektivet och bevarar de goda och effektiva lösningarna. Fokus för detta arbete är på tid och krav på tid, inte direkt på kostnader. Ansatsen i TUFF-PO är inte att försöka konstruera personalomlopp och inte heller personalslingor utan att titta på arbetsperioder för att utifrån dessa försöka finna gemensamma egenskaper som tycks gynna bra personalomlopp i senare planeringsskeden. Dessa egenskaper lägger grunden för de begränsningar som bildar krav på tidtabelläggningen. Preliminära resultat pekar på att det är möjligt att skapa kvalitativt bättre personalplaner. Vi tar upp och belyser både generella frågeställningar och den prototypimplementering som är gjord för att validera resultaten.

    Abstract [en]

    This project is concerned with how to improve the capacity allocation process. In particular the project aims at proposing an enhanced format for train path applications, study the technical limitations for timetabling support tools and in the longer term to implement support systems for the train path allocation process. This report describes the various factors that affect the application process, and report the opinions from several actors in the field. Since the deregulation of the Swedish railway, and with new EU directives, the foundations for the capacity allocation process is changing rapidly. There is a strong need for clear and predictable principles that are fair and operator neutral and implements the prioritisation given to different types of traffic and for improved methodologies and decision support tools in the capacity allocation process. This is crucial to support both the possibility for the traffic operators to state demands and the timetable designers in judging conflicting train paths. A conclusion is that almost all the requirements on the timetable presented in this report can in fact be stated as properties and relations of events in the timetable.

    Denna rapport beskriver status hos den forskning som är relevant för tåglägestilldelning samt analyserar och kommenterar några av de reglerande dokument såsom lagar och förordningar samt instruktioner och information som Banverket och Tågtrafikledningen tagit fram. för att styra tåglägestilldelningsprocessen. Rapporten ger också en översikt av forskningsfronten vad gäller systemstöd för tåglägestilldelningen och ger en kortfattad en beskrivning av några av de tekniker som kan vara användbara i ett stödsystem för tåglägestilldelning samt lyfter fram deras respektive för och nackdelar.

    Abstract [en]

    This document summarizes the results obtained by SICS in project GENFUNK (2001). The project was carried out in collaboration with Global Genomics AB (Stockholm, Sweden). Jointly obtained results will be presented separately. Main funding was provided by Swedish Research Agency VINNOVA. Project GENFUNK studied a novel approach of measuring the global gene expression. In the method, mRNA is extracted from a tissue sample and transformed into cDNA captured on magnetic beads. This is then acted on by type IIS restriction endonucleases, which recognize certain short DNA sequences and cut the DNA close to those sequences. The resulting fragments are amplified in PCR with selected ligation fragments, and displayed in capillary electrophoresis. Determining the gene expression levels from the peak data is combinatorial optimization problem, which can in principle be solved, to give expression levels of most genes active in sampled cells, with good accuracy.

    The opportunistic replacement and inspection problem for components with a stochastic life time2011Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    The problem of finding efficient maintenance and inspection schemes in the case of components with a stochastic life time is studied and a mixed integer programming solution is proposed. The problem is compared with the two simpler problems of which the studied problem is a generalisation: The opportunistic replacement problem, assuming components with a deterministic life time and The opportunistic replacement problem for components with a stochastic life time, for maintenance schemes without inspections.

    Statistical Anomaly Detection for Train Fleets2012Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    We have developed a method for statistical anomaly detection which has been deployed in a tool for condition monitoring of train fleets. The tool is currently used by several railway operators over the world to inspect and visualize the occurrence of "event messages" generated on the trains. The anomaly detection component helps the operators to quickly find significant deviations from normal behavior and to detect early indications for possible problems. The savings in maintenance costs comes mainly from avoiding costly breakdowns, and have been estimated to several million Euros per year for the tool. In the long run, it is expected that maintenance costs can be reduced with between 5 and 10 % by using the tool.

    Abstract [en]

    The paper presents an analytic method for estimating capacity for repeated traffic patterns on a railway section. The vision is to use the method as a basis for developing tools for infrastructure analysis that supports the process of designing infrastructure that meet the traffic needs. The idea underlying the method is that traffic patterns can be modelled as discrete event systems, where the events considered are associated with trains waiting for other trains. The Swedish National Rail Administration (Banverket) supports the research from which the presented ideas result.

    Abstract [en]

    The capacity analysis tool Kaban aims at being efficient for examining if planned infrastructure meets the expected need for railway capacity. Infrastructure, safety rules, signalling and traffic are all modelled in great detail in Kaban and hence the tool is a useful support for signalling design. The tool is also useful for finding out which routing and what train order suits existing or planned track layout. The idea of Kaban is that traffic patterns can be modelled as discrete event systems, with the minimum cycle time as a capacity measure. This measure answers the question if a certain timetable is possible at a station and tells how much buffer time there is. Kaban also presents results on what is critical for the capacity, aiming at explaining how to adjust to increase capacity. The GUI of Kaban displays the infrastructure and train paths and takes care of the user interaction. The development of Kaban is supported by the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket).

    Abstract [en]

    This report concerns the "ISC-tool", a tool for classification of patterns and detection of anomalous patterns, where a pattern is a set of values. The tool has a graphical user interface "the anomalo-meter" that shows the degree of anomaly of a pattern and how it is classified. The report describes the user interaction with the tool and the underlying statistical methods used, which basically are Bayesian inference for finding expected or "predictive" distributions for clusters of patterns and using these distributions for classifying and assessing a degree of anomaly to a new pattern. The report also briefly discusses what in general are appropriate methods for clustering and anomaly detection. The project has been supported by SSF via the Butler2 programme.

    TIME står för Train Information Management Environment. TIME är ett tänkt övergripande informationssystem för Järnväg. Viktiga aspekter hos TIME är utformningen av en plattform för kommunikation mellan aktörerna i järnvägstransportbranschen och information mellan fordon och system med en fast plats. TIME gäller alla delar i ett informationssystem, hur data produceras och processas, infrastruktur för information och principer för datalagring och informationsutbyte samt funktioner och tjänster baserade på denna information. TIME avser t.ex. att medverka till att samverkan mellan järnvägstransportbranschens aktörer fungerar bra, dessa aktörers egen verksamhet blir effektiv och att kunder till järnvägen och andra som beror av järnvägen erhåller rätt information.

    Abstract [en]

    As part of the project DUST financed by Vinnova, we have investigated whether event data generated on trains can be used for finding evidence of wear on train doors. We have compared the event data and maintenance reports relating to doors of Regina trains. Although some interesting relations were found, the overall result is that the information in event data about wear of doors is very limited.

    Detta är slutrapporten till projektet "Beslutsstöd för utredning av kapacitetsfrågor vid signalprojektering," utfört av SICS AB under perioden januari 2002 - mars 2003 och finansierat av Banverkets FoU-program. Rapporten beskriver en metod att beräkna kapacitet, där kapacitet avser antalet tåg som per tidsenhet går att framföra genom ett spårområde. Metoden beräknar minsta tiden för en upprepning hos en periodiskt upprepad trafik. I rapporten införs begreppen fri väg och trafikering för att resonera om kapacitet. Dessa begrepp är centrala för metoden och delar upp beräkningen i två delar. Den ena delen utgörs av framtagandet av värden som hör samman med de införda begreppen, från data om bland annat fordon och infrastruktur. Beräkningen av kapacitet från dessa värden utgör den andra delen. Rapporten ger en detaljerad beskrivning av hur man går till väga för att använda metoden, bevis av det grafteoretiska påstående som metoden baseras på och uppskattning av metodens beräkningskomplexitet. Rapporten innehåller också en diskussion kring vad utredning av kapacitet innebär, resonemang kring målet med ett visst kapacitetskrav och förslag på hur kapacitet kravställs. Vid signalprojektering kan metoden användas både till snabba ungefärliga och till noggranna uppskattningar av kapacitet. Lämpliga sätt att använda metoden är att jämföra olika sätt att placera signaler, jämföra ett antal trafiklösningar på en bangård och att jämföra olika val av mötesstationer på en enkelspårssträcka.

    Abstract [en]

    The need for improving the capability to detect illegal or hazardous activities and yet reducing the workload of operators involved in various surveillance tasks calls for research on more capable automatic tools. To maximize their performance, these tools should be able to combine automatic capturing of normal behavior from data with domain knowledge in the form of human descriptions. In a proposed Joint Statistical and Symbolic Anomaly Detection System, statistical and symbolic methods are tightly integrated in order to detect the majority of critical events in the situation while minimizing unwanted alerts. We exemplify the proposed system in the domain of maritime surveillance.

    The Regina trains, manufactured by Bombardier Transportation, contain software and hardware to generate as well condition data as event data that can be used to monitor the condition of the trains. In this paper we present the necessary equations for abnormality detection of both event data and condition counters in a general setting. The use of the equations is illustrated on authentic data from Regina trains.

    I Reginatågen genereras signaler om såväl s.k. "events" (meddelanden om både rutinhändelser och mer eller mindre allvarliga fel i olika enheter) som "condition" (driftsräknare för olika enheter). Det är önskvärt att övervaka båda dessa typer av signaler för att upptäcka avvikelser som kraftigt förändrad frekvens eller driftsintensitet. Sådana avvikelser skulle kunna signalera olika servicebehov, och det skulle alltså vara till användning om servicepersonal fick reda på dem i god tid innan de lett till allvarligare fel. Vi kommer här att gå igenom en grundläggande och generellt användbar statistisk modell för detta scenario. Metoden utvärderas på autentiska data från Reginatågen.

    Maintenance and services of products as well as processes are pivotal for achieving high availability and avoiding catastrophic and costly failures. At the same time, maintenance is routinely performed more frequently than necessary, replacing possibly functional components, which has negative economic impact on the maintenance. New processes and products need to fulfil increased environmental demands, while customers put increasing demands on customization and coordination. Hence, improved maintenance processes possess very high potentials, economically as well as environmentally. The shifting demands on product development and production processes have led to the emergency of new digital solutions as well as new business models, such as integrated product-service offerings. Still, the general maintenance problem of how to perform the right service at the right time, taking available information and given limitations is valid. The project Future Industrial Services Management (FUSE) project was a step in a long-term effort for catalysing the evolution of maintenance and production in the current digital era. In this paper, several aspects of the general maintenance problem are discussed from a data driven perspective, spanning from technology solutions and organizational requirements to new business opportunities and how to create optimal maintenance plans. One of the main results of the project, in the form of a simulation tool for strategy selection, is also described.

    Methods relating to profiling and/or identifying molecules in a sample, particularly chemical or biological molecules contained in an experimental sample using measured data about molecules actually present and known information about candidate molecules that may be present. Information tags can be assigned to candidates. This may be achieved with a high degree of accuracy and a low false positive rate by minimising the effect of one or more possible sources of error. An objective goal (assignment) may be optimised by linear programming or by mixed integer programming

    BETCRETE 2.0 - Tillståndsprocesser : En nulägesbeskrivning2022Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Denna rapport sammanfattar författarnas arbete med att undersöka förbättringsmöjligheter hos dagens tillståndsprocesser, ett arbete som bedrivits under perioden januari 2021 till juli 2022. Arbetet har finansierats av VINNOVA UDI 2 - BETCRETE 2.0 och RISE kompetensmedel. I det inledande avsnittet “De fossilfria färdplanerna” beskrivs tillståndsprocessers betydelse för att uppnå målen med de fossilfria färdplanerna, branschernas åsikter om hur tillståndsprocesser fungerar idag och de förhoppningar som gäller förändringar av tillståndsprocesser, för att gå i mål med färdplanerna. Avsnittet "Tillämplig lagstiftning för brytande verksamhet" handlar framför allt om den lagstiftning som ligger till grund för tillståndsprövningar av täkter och liknande verksamhet. I detta avsnitt gås bland annat prövningsprocessens olika steg igenom. Avsnittet "Statistik kring miljötillståndsprövningen" sammanfattar framförallt delar av Naturvårdsverkets rapport från 2022-05-13, "Uppdrag att samla in och analysera statistik för miljötillståndsprövningen för år 2021". Under rubriken "Relevanta aktuella utredningar och deras förslag" redovisas en genomgång av utredningar som väsentligen handlar om förändringar av lagstiftningen rörande tillståndsprocesser. De olika utredningarna ger en inblick i tankar kring och ambitioner med förändringar av lagstiftningen. Utredningar som beskrivs är Klimaträttsutredningen som handlar om hur förutsättningar för att Sveriges klimatmål ska kunna nås skapas, Miljöprövningsutredningen som handlar om att uppnå en modernare och mer effektiv miljöprövning, samt Utredning om hållbar försörjning av innovationskritiska metaller och mineral som handlar om ökad försörjningsberedskap för varor och tjänster. Utöver aktuella utredningar som handlar om eller berör tillståndsprocesser beskrivs också ett antal regeringsuppdrag som är relevanta för tillståndsprocesserna: Ökad försörjningsberedskap för varor och tjänster från industrin handlar om det uppdrag om ökad försörjningsberedskap regeringen gett till en särskild utredare, och i Regleringsbrev för budgetåret 2022 avseende länsstyrelserna ger regeringen bland annat uppdrag till länsstyrelserna som rör miljö-tillståndsprövningen. Slutligen sammanfattas rapporten Naturvårdsverkets rapport 7002 Miljöbedömningar. Under rubriken Aktuella fall beskrivs ett aktuellt miljöprövningsärende som gäller LKAB och ett potentiellt fall som handlar om Kalcinerade leror. Rapporten avslutas med avsnittet Digitala verktyg, som handlar om vad digitalisering och AI-metoder kan bidra med till olika förbättringar av tillståndsprocesserna.
