Optimization of groove design for rolling of long products
MEFOS − Metallurgical Research Institute AB.

Abstract [en]

By using FE calculations and the program module LS-OPT, the optimal input geometry for a given groove design can be calculated. Quantitative values for the sensitivity to dimensional variations are calculated and can be used to optimize the tolerances at rolling. Calculations show that a finishing oval with flat sides is less sensitive to various incoming width compared with a single-radius oval.
