Abstract [sv]

Remediation of damp homes and its impact on health The object of this inventory study was to study the effect on the indoor environ­ment and allergy parameters after adequate measures were taken in damp-dam­aged one-family houses with HDM allergic occupants. Moisture may cause damage on building material and increase allergic symptoms. If ade­quate measures considering moisture are taken in a damaged building this should improve the indoor air quality and thereby re­duce the allergic symptoms in allergic patients. In this study fifteen patients with allergy to house dust mites (HDM) and living in houses with se­vere moisture problems were selected. Several technical parameters were measured be­fore and after (one year or more) adequate taken measures. These parameters were e.g. venti­lation rate, HDM-content in e.g. mat­tresses, tem­perature and moisture condi­tions in indoor air and in the dam­aged/damp building structures. In parallel to the technical measurements, ques­tionnaire and medical parame­ters on each patients including HDM-specific IgE, ECP, symptom score and spi­rometry were fol­lowed.
