Lignin: evaluation of properties for applications

With Innventia AB's LignoBoost concept, lignin can be chemically or physically modified before, during or after isolation within the process. The LignoBoost process can be adapted and additional functionality integrated so that the lignin can be tailored towards certain applications. Innventia is capable of working at several scales to extract engineering lignins from black liquor to provide new lignin-reach streams and maximise the potential for developing valuable lignin applications. Innventia is a global leader in several additional lignin-based research areas, for example, carbon nanofibres, activated carbons and activated carbon fibres. Several projects are currently underway focusing on producing lignin carbon fibres with tensile properties that exceed previously published data. In these projects, each part of the supply chain is represented and all aspects are considered so that technoeconomic evaluation is undertaken. In addition, several other carbon material projects using lignin precursors are ongoing.
